Jonathan Liang Fall Winter 2017
Nov 16 2017
New world sensibilities melded with classic feminism. Jonathan Liang fall winter 2017 is inspired by Reinier Van Persijn, an engraver of portraits and bookplates from the Dutch golden age, who engraved the title page for ‘The Singing Swan’. Exploring the term, ‘Swan Song’, a metaphor now used to express a final performance or accomplishment, this collection metaphorically draws parallels to this phrase through the collection's build up from street pieces, casual layers and basics, to a extravagant embroidered pieces.
The tonality of the FW17 is inspired furthered by Chris Labrooy's "Auto Elasticity Series", a modern surrealist manipulation, exploring the amalgamation of unexpected layers and colors together, which has translated in the use of brighter hues within this collection.
Jonathan Liang is a wild garden - a romantically carefree landscape filled with dramatic creatures. Each ready-to-wear piece envisioned by the label is not only inspired by, but reflects the characteristics of this spirited plane: from the common pansy, to the striking flamingo - elements of natural natives are prevalent throughout Jonathan Liang's work and collective story, amalgamated with his definition of expressive femininity.
