5 Perfect-For-Singapore Spring/Summer 2022 Trends To Shop Now

Spring is in full bloom – in more ways than one. As pieces from the Spring/Summer’22 shows finally hit the shelves, it coincides with the feelings of revival and joy brought about by Singapore’s recently relaxed Covid-19 restrictions.

Bars, clubs and karaoke joints are back in action – and there’s a sense that people are genuinely excited to be out in town, to see and be seen. In other words, it’s time to get frothily dressed up after 2 years of sedateness – here are some perfect Spring/Summer 2022 trends that’ll add some punch to your outfits. This way please.

1. Saturated Hues

Enough with the placid beiges that we all bought into during the early days of the pandemic – designers are plumping for bright, juicy colours en masse this season – as if to say, enough is enough! The colours of the moment are bold, citrus-y and definitely vibrant – think hot pink, tomato red, sunset orange and more – the idea is to up the visual ante and just have fun. If clashing colours feel too much of a headache, simply ground them with neutrals.

2. Micro Hemlines

By now, who hasn’t seen (at least once) that ultra-mini skirt from Miu Miu? It’s received so much love from celebrities and magazine covers and we can see why – the remarkably short hemline feels daring and refreshing after being covered up for so long. Free the legs, we say!

3. Denim Fever

Denim is a perennial mainstay. The late Yves Saint Laurent loved jeans so much, he once said that he wished he had invented them: “Jeans have expression, modesty, sex appeal, simplicity; all I hope for in my clothes.” This season, you want to look out for denim pieces of a lighter wash and looser fit – they recall the baggy jeans of the early 2000s.

4. Statement Tops

Remember how girls used to pair skimpy, “going out” tops designed to turn heads with low-rise jeans for a night out in town? Like most things from the early 2000s, they’re back with a vengeance. But this time, you can forgo the low-rise jeans and pair them with anything from long, clingy skirts (a la Kim Kardashian) or even cargo pants for a cool, unexpected effect.

5. Body Confidence

Whatever you think of Gen Z, they’ve at least embraced and advocated for the inclusion of all shapes and sizes more fervently than any group before them. It’s mirrored on the runways too – designers for Spring/Summer 2022 clearly have an appetite for showcasing the body through strategic cut-outs.
