The Long Bow Gem Duckbill Clip in Gold is a wide, horizontal clip: a gold ribbon bow in the middle, with a round gem-set disc at each end, all on one long bar. Each disc is a small rosette of stones around a pearl-like centre, and together with the bow they make a row of three decorated shapes across the top of the clip.
A duckbill clip works differently from a barrette or a bobby pin. Two flat metal plates close like a beak around a section of hair, and the decoration sits on the outer plate, so the whole width of the clip is on show. The long version here is made for a flat section of hair, such as a side sweep or a smooth twist, where the bar can lie against the head. The product spec lists brass with 18K gold plating, cubic zirconia and imitation pearl.
In the YVMIN photos two gold clips are stacked one above the other on the side of a curly updo, and the same bow and gem motif appears again in a drop earring and a gold necklace, so the head carries the same theme at three scales. From behind, a similar clip sits at the nape side of the updo, where it holds a section of hair in place and shows the gold bow from the back.
A clip this size wants a section of hair about as wide as the bar. On fine or straight hair, take a thin, flat section and clip it across so the bow sits upright. On thick or curly hair, use it on the side where hair is already pinned, since the bar needs something to rest against. Used alone, it works as the single decorative piece; used in a stack, line the bows up vertically as in the photos, with the lower clip slightly off centre.
