societyA Curates: Toga Archives PF24

Led by designer Yasuko Furuta, Tokyo-based label Toga Archives is the physical embodiment of romance and irreverence. Built on the spirit of experimentation and artisanship, the label plays with textures, layers and colour with unconventional techniques for an alternative glamour. It’s punk, Americana, Rockabilly and avant-garde—all fused into wearable pieces of art.

For Pre-Fall 2024, the Toga girl plays dress in her parents’ closet by imbuing a sense of romanticism to these clothes that once lived full lives. Titled “Dress-up, Undress, Romanticism”, pieces that may appear erratic and spontaneous are tied together through nostalgia. Toga Archives’ signature elements of deconstruction through feather-embellished garments and Western-style hardware on belts and accessories.

A collection of conventionally “grown-up” designs reimagined through a youthful, rebellious lens, Pre-Fall 24 is subversive yet sensual. Each piece evokes tension through juxtaposing elements. We like how the designs feel fresh conceptually, yet lived in with the use of timeless silhouettes and references.

Collection Highlights

Featuring the label’s signature Western flair, the Metal Leather Narrow Belt is quintessential Togo Archives. It features a chain of engraved silver-tone hardware on a skinny black belt—opening up endless styling opportunities.

More than just a sleeveless vest, the Cotton Jersey Sleeveless Top pulls focus with its built-in pussy-bow in bright cerulean. This piece’s versatility lies in its effortlessness when half-tucked and its polished appearance when fully tucked in a pencil skirt.

Creating an air of intrigue without adding heft, this Sheer Knit Cardigan thinly veils the layers underneath with a cobalt tint. We like how it can effortlessly create visual appeal over simple outfits.

Upon first glance, the Cotton Short Sleeve with Feathers appears minimal and crisp. Take a closer look and you’ll spot the detachable feather trim that’s tucked underneath the collar—giving it some drama.
