This season, we see both tech and fashion come together seamlessly from one of SocietyA’s stronghold labels, PH5 of New York. The all-female duo behind the label, Wei Lin and Miji Zhang, have introduced UV-reactive knitwear. A cool beige in the shade and turns bubblegum pink in the sun, this is fashion innovation at its best.

Pioneering Technology in Fashion

Technology have been shaping many different industries and we saw a steadily growing trend of marrying fashion with technology in recent years. Since its launch, PH5 has experimented with new technology by pushing the boundaries of knitwear and they are a pioneer at the forefront of this growing trend.

How does UV-reactive fabric work?

This UV-reactive set is made from yarn that is coated with a special material that reacts to UV light, causing it to change colour under the sun. This technology is being used by other brands but mainly on their logo. PH5 is one of the few brands that create entire styles using this special coated yarn. The yarn can repeatedly change colours in and out of the sun for an unlimited amount of time. It reacts to the sun within seconds.

With its special treatment, you would think that it would be hard to care for the garment. However, designer, Wei Lin have confirmed that dry cleaning the garment well is all you need to do.
