The Short Bow Gem Duckbill Clip in Gold puts the bow first and the gems second. A full, soft gold ribbon bow sits in the centre of a short duckbill clip, with a small gem-set disc tucked in at each side, so the bow is wider and rounder than on the long version of this clip.
The bow is the largest element, with two full loops, a centre knot and two tails that spread out over the discs. The discs are small rosettes of stones, and the product spec lists brass with 18K gold plating and cubic zirconia. The gold has a warm, slightly satin finish, so the bow shows its folds without looking glossy.
On the model, in the YVMIN photos, two gold clips are stacked on one side of a curly updo, and a third gold bow motif hangs from the ear as a drop earring. From behind, you can see a clip pinned into the lower side of the updo, with the bow facing out and the stones catching a little light.
Short duckbill clips suit small sections of hair. Use one to pin a side section above the ear, to gather a few strands at the crown, or to hold a twist in place at the back. It is also the easier size for fine or straight hair, since a smaller bow needs less hair to hold it upright. Two clips at different heights make a loose line, and one is enough if you want a single piece.
Because it is shorter, it works better as a finishing piece than as the main structure of a hairstyle. Pin the style with ordinary pins first, then add the bow where it will be seen.
