Stripe direction changes across the White Striped Floral Button Shirt. On the back the thin dark stripes run vertically, while the wrapped front panels cross each other on the diagonal, which turns the pattern into a V that points toward the waist.
The base colour is a creamy white, striped in pairs of fine grey-black lines. The spec calls the fabric a silk-staple blend with a refined texture. The front crosses into a deep V and is folded and gathered around the waist, and the hem is a shirttail that falls longer at the sides and back than at the centre front.
The shoulders are dropped and the sleeves are long and full, each one gathering into a buttoned cuff, so the sleeves look blousy against the narrower waist. At the back, the collar is wide and stands open, exposing the back of the neck and part of the shoulders instead of closing around them.
The lookbook styles it with white straight-leg trousers, navy sandals and green earrings, which leaves the stripes as the only pattern in the outfit. White on white works here because the stripes give the shirt enough contrast to stand apart from the trousers. A pair of black trousers would reverse the effect and make the pale shirt the brightest thing in the outfit.
Because the stripes meet at an angle at the front, a crooked press shows more on this shirt than on a plain one. Press it from the reverse side, keep the iron within what the garment’s care label allows, and give the gathered waist a light steam instead of flattening it.
